Welcome to the Association

Introduction to the Association

Right well...I'm going to safely assume that I'm only talking to my mum and maybe some random at a bar whose ear I've chewed off about reading or some other shite and have subsequently force fed this link, but either way welcome to the performative reader's association. I think this is going to be a space where I post some unwanted, informal, and maybe slightly pseudo-intellectual thoughts, reviews, and essays on books I've read or am reading. I've fallen back in love with reading over the past few years after finding myself with a whole lot of free time outside basketball and education (turns out a master's degree in business management is not the most rigorous or academically demanding course). Now I'm in Denmark playing professionally without even the challenge of going to class once a week and coughing out some homework on a Sunday evening, so I feel it is best I make a somewhat productive use of my time outside of my basketball commitments. It's either this or watching endless crap on youtube and trying to chirpse in Danish on Hinge, so here I am.

There's probably not going to be a whole lot of structure - or consistency for that matter - but I just felt that I needed a creative outlet completely unrelated to basketball (mainly for my own sanity). The books will probably be pretty random (I only brought a smallish collection with me abroad so once I run that dry it will be a matter of seeing what I can scavenge in the English section of the Naestved library and book stores), I tend to dabble into the realms of literary fiction, classic lit, philosophy, history, as well as a little romance (I did enjoy some chick lit favorites of Normal People by Sally Rooney and Verity by Colleen Hoover - thanks Gabi). I am well aware that some of these genres kind of scream performative reader, and look I'm not going to sit here and pretend I don't perform a little (I think we all do to some extent and yeah I've obviously whipped out a book in a busy cafe and on public transport) but I'm hoping whoever - if anyone at all - reads these posts they might have some similar interests, possibly find their next read, or simply oppose whatever opinion I churn out.

That's it then I suppose. First post in the books. A permanent digital footprint out there. Don't know where this is going to go but looking forward to vomiting up some thoughts and such on here.

Cheers x

(P.S. if anyone fancies giving me any book recs or contributing their own posts, reviews, or perspectives that'd be great)
